Solar Rooftop Subsidy Scheme 2024
The government is providing subsidy amounts for installing solar panels during the Solar Rooftop Scheme to encourage more citizens residing in the country to install solar panels on their rooftops. As the government aims to promote renewable energy, it encourages all citizens to install solar panels.
From the beginning of the Solar Rooftop Scheme, households installing solar panels on their roofs receive subsidies, along with discounts on electricity bills. This is because solar panels convert energy from the sun into electrical energy, allowing you to easily save on your electricity bills.
Under Solar Rooftop Subsidy Yojana, if you also want to install solar panels on your rooftop, government will provide 40% subsidy on installing solar panels of 3 kW capacity and 20% subsidy for 500 kW. Install the solar plant yourself or get it installed on RESCO model (Renewable Energy Service Company) and the developer will do the investment in your place. 10 square meter of space is required for 1kw solar energy.

Benefits of Solar Rooftop Subsidy Scheme
The main objective of starting this scheme is that free electricity will be provided to the citizens through solar rooftop. By installing solar panels in your group housing, electricity costs will be reduced by 30 to 50 percent. Under this scheme, subsidy of up to 20% will be provided on installation of solar rooftop up to 500 KV.
Through solar rooftop, people will get electricity for 25 years in which the expenses will be recovered in 5 to 6 years. After this people will be able to get free electricity for 19 to 20 years. In this scheme. 10 square meter of space is required for 1kw solar energy.

How to Apply for the Rooftop Solar Scheme Online
If you want to get the subsidy offered by the government for installing solar panels, you need to apply online for the scheme. To apply online, First you need to register on Solar Rooftop Scheme website at pmsuryaghar.gov.in.
- Step 1: Register in the portal with the following
- Select your State
- Select your Electricity Distribution Company
- Enter your Electricity Consumer Number
- Enter Mobile Number
- Enter Email
- Please proceed as per the direction from the portal

- Login with Mobile Number
- Apply for the Rooftop
- Submit bank detail at any stage of the application
- Step 3: Once you get the availability approval, get the plant installed by any of the registered vendors in your DISCOM
- Step 4: Once installation is completed , submit the plant details and apply for net meter.
- Step 5: Commissioning certificate will be generated from the portal, after installation of net meter and inspection by DISCOM
- Step 6: Once you get the commissioning report. Submit the bank account details and a cancelled cheque through the portal. You will receive your subsidy in your bank account within 30 days.
